Scarborough made a flying start when fly-half Tom Harrison scored and converted a fourth minute try in their promotion battle with York at Clifton Park this afternoon.

However they lost the momentum produced by that score and slipped 10-7 behind when the Minstermen replied with a touchdown of their own followed by a penalty on the half-hour.

Both sides entertained a big pre-Christmas turnout with enterprising rugby but Scarborough struggled when they lost scrum-half Jordi Wakeham who was accidentally kicked on the head and taken to hospital in the 20th minute.

The visitors were further depleted when full-back Tom Ratcliffe was sin-binned early in the second half.

York failed to take advantage of their superiority in numbers but edged ahead on the hour from a penalty for 20-10.

The Seasiders closed the gap with a penalty six minutes later for 20-17 and although they dominated the closing stages of the game York held on for a deserved win.
