Whitby RNLI to host private naming ceremony for Shannon class boat Lois Ivan

Whitby RNLI has revealed that the naming ceremony of its Shannon class lifeboat RNLB 13-49 Lois Ivan will take place on Saturday June 1.

The launch a memory lifeboat was funded by a generous legacy from Ivan Stone and his late partner, Lois.

Mr Stone left a donation in his will which funded the all-weather lifeboat and requested that it be named after himself and his partner.

The ceremony will take place at Whitby Bandstand and is open to invited guests only, due to limited space.

It is hoped to live-stream a video of the ceremony online.

It is hoped to have a small demonstration in the harbour following the ceremony which will be visible from all public areas around Whitby harbour.

The next lifeboat station open weekend is on May 18 and 19, as part of the town’s Fish and Ship’s festival.
