YELLOW WEATHER WARNING : Strong winds and blustery showers forecast to hit the Yorkshire Coast this week

The weather warning is in place from 9pm on Wednesday evening until 3pm on Thursday afternoon.

The forecast states that strong and gusty winds are likely to develop on Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday across England and Wales.

Gusts of 50-55 mph are possible inland and may reach 60-70 mph on coasts and hills, especially in the west, before gradually easing on Thursday afternoon.

What to expect

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible

Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely

Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

The weather for the rest of the week is as follows:

Monday:

A mild but cloudy day, with outbreaks of rain, especially in the west where there will be some heavier bursts over the hills. Some brighter interludes in the east through the afternoon, with rain becoming more sporadic. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Monday night:

Mostly cloudy with perhaps the odd clear spell in the east. Further periods of mainly light rain, especially over the hills. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Tuesday:

Mainly dry further east on Tuesday, with brighter spells. Turning breezy over western hills will rain and drizzle at times. Heavy rain overnight into Wednesday. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Turning very unsettled through the period with heavy blustery showers, wintry over the hills, or longer spells of rain. Strong to gale strength winds with severe gales possible over hills.
