A BUDDING young actress and a rescued dog are looking forward to making their stage debut later this year.

Over 50 children turned up to audition for the role of Annie which is being staged by Whitby Area Musical Theatre Company.

Local girl Amy Kay Pell from Eskdale School was delighted when a letter fell on her doorstep last week telling her she had got the part.

She will take to the stage with Honey the handsome hound who has been picked to play her dog Sandy.

Honey belongs to Jess Wright, a teaching assistant from Caedmon and the pianist for the rehearsals, who got her from Whitby Dog Rescue.

Jess is preparing Honey for her big moment by calling her by her stage name.

It is straight into rehearsals for Amy and her fellow cast members with sessions for the other orphans, adult principals and chorus taking place this week.

There are still a few male roles left in the chorus if anyone would be interested.

Rehearsals for this are Tuesday and Friday, 7.30pm-9.30pm and Sundays 4.30pm-6pm from the end of October.
