This Saturday sees one of Whitby Lifeboat’s most popular fund-raising evenings take place.

Steve Phillips and the Rough Diamonds will be supported by Gateshead bluesman Ray Stubbs in an evening of entertainment at the Friendship Rowing Club from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £10 and are available from the Sutcliffe Gallery on Golden Lion Bank or Whitby lifeboat shop and museum on Pier Road.

Alternatively contact Graham Holmes, of Friends of Whitby Lifeboat, on (01947) 895981 or 07812759507.

Graham said: “Over the last 10 years this popular annual event has raised in excess of £10,000 and we expect it to be a sell out again this year, so early booking is recommended.”

Music on the evening will include R&B, rock and roll, and Western swing.

Whitby Lifeboat is Steve’s chosen charity, despite requests from other organisations. This has been recognised with an award from the RNLI in appreciation of his continued support. Steve featured earlier in the year in a documentary filmed at the Grosvenor in Robin Hoods Bay with close friend Mark Knopfler, of Dire Straits.
