The DEADLINE for entries to the Eskdale Festival of the Arts is rapidly approaching.
There will be competitions in the Spoken Word (Speech and Drama) from 6 to 8 March and in Music from 12 to 16 March with a Gala concert on 17 March.
There will also be the National Choir Competition on 14th April, which is likely to attract choirs from a wide area.
New classes include a Dramatic Interpretation based on the theme of The Sea and for the National Choir Day choirs can offer “Songs from the Shows” as a new class.
Another departure from tradition is that those schools who are making use of the Government’s “Sing Up “ initiative will be permitted to present their choirs using a backing tape – this will allow those schools who do not have a regular pianist to enter the competition.
Not all has changed and the traditional classes are still available, so schools such as Ruswarp and Sleights, who both gained distinction marks in the Choral Speaking last year, will still find plenty to enter.
David Rowland reminded potential competitors that entries must be received by 10 December 10 and that those who enter by 22 November will get a 10% discount.
Syllabuses can be found in the Tourist Information Centre, Whitby Library and the Chocolate Box on Golden Lion Bank or can be ordered directly from David Rowland on Whitby 600403 or by emailing Eskdalefestival@gmail.com
