CASTLETON School’s annual Mayday event took place last week, with a new swashbuckling element.

Expert longsword dancers Dave and Moira Clarke visited the school to teach pupils this ancient tradition, thankfully using less-lethal alternatives called rapper swords.

At the event the children performed three maypole dances, two of which included Infant pupils, supported and led by Juniors.

Headteacher Jane Douglass said: “There was quite a crowd!

“The event grows in popularity each year and this year the school playground was very busy, as was the school afterwards when refreshments were served.”
