WHITBY will be represented in the Miss Scarborough competition after a girl was entered by her fiancee’s mum.

Laura Stone (21), works for Kristy’s Beauty Salon and River Gardens cafe, who have sponsored her for the pageant.

She said: “I’m very nervous, but I think it would be good fun.

“I’ve never entered anything like this before and it’s nice to represent the Esk Valley and Whitby.”

The eagerly-awaited Miss Scarborough and District 2011 final takes place this Sunday at the Spa Grand Hall in Scarborough and tickets are selling fast, with more than 200 people having already booked their seats for the show.

Laura added: “There’s three rounds.

“A beachwear one, one where you wear an eco-dress that you’ve made from recycled stuff and then a Miss Bond, which is like being all glamorous and lovely.”

Messages of support have been given to Laura, by Kristy’s and River Gardens.

Jackie Allgood, owner of River Gardens Cafe, said: “All the staff at River Gardens and Perry’s Plants wish Laura the best of luck in Miss Scarborough.

“She’s a natural beauty queen every day of the year.”

Salon owner Kristy McGovern said: “Myself and all of the girls wish her good luck.

“She’s very lovely and we will be supporting her all the way.”

Miss Stone added: “I think that people should support someone from Whitby and it’s nice to be able to represent Whitby as we are overshadowed by Scarborough, so I hope people vote for me”
