Children at Ruswarp School learned about Christian celebration by staging their own wedding complete with bride, groom - and of course a party afterwards.

Making their vows were ‘bride and groom’ Kirby Locker and Finlay Turford, who was backed up by best man Angus Stewart-Angus.

Kirby’s bridesmaids were Lola Micallef, Roxy Noble-Storr and Honey Chambers.

The wedding took place at Ruswarp Church and was led by Father David Smith, the Canon of Whitby.

All the children involved in the ceremony had roles and they made their own decorations, food and cake for the wedding reception which was also attended by parents.

It is the second time the school has hosted a wedding with the early years group and it is hoped it will become an annual event.

Teacher Judith Stainthorpe said: “As we learn through play in the early years it is ideal to have the ceremony to teach the children about a Christian celebration for our RE curriculum.

“They remember so much from actually taking part, and it is so much fun.”
