Lealholm and Airy Hill primaries have secured places in the Ryedale and Whitby School Sports Partnership final of the Drax Cup, in an event involving 15 schools from the area at Mulgrave CC.
The teams met for a play-off to decide the Whitby cluster winner, having topped their groups following the pool matches, with Lealholm scoring 155 runs in reply to 105 set by Airy Hill.
Shaun Hopper, school games organiser, said: “The two teams were the strongest throughout, with Lealholm unbeaten, so it will be great to see how they perform in the final.”
Other local schools competing on the day were Castleton, Danby, East Whitby, Egton, Fylingdales, Glaisdale, Lythe, Oakridge, Ruswarp, Sleights, St Hilda’s, Stakesby and West Cliff.
The partnership final will be held on Tuesday June 2 at The Recreation Club in Pickering. Play is scheduled from noon to 4pm and is expected to involve some 10 teams from the Ryedale area.
More than 550 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside are registered for the 2015 Drax Cup.
Teams play in a series of events to produce four area winners from the North, South, East and West.
These teams will play the 2015 Drax Cup Finals at Headingley on Friday July 10, prior to Yorkshire Vikings v Durham Jets in the NatWest T20 Blast.
The Drax Cup is sponsored by Drax and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with The Yorkshire Cricket Board, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and The Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
