With conditions looking favourable for batting, Staithes took the opportunity to have first knock.
The opening bowlers for Scalby were Deaves (2-42) and Hills (4-56) both of whom made the early Staithes batsmen work hard for their runs. Hegarty (48) and Bowes (52) combined to get the home side into a decent position.
Scalby stuck to their task well, holding their catches, and their bowlers maintaining good line and lengths.
Staithes were indebted to a late flurry from Paul Wilson (27) to get them over the 200 mark. In reply the Scalby top order was blown away by a devastating opening Spell from Stuart Theaker.
His figures of 5-25, including a hat-trick, were well deserved. At 43/6 the game looked to be heading for an early finish. However resistance came in the form of Danny Gregory, who hit three sixes and eight fours in his knock of 62 and Hills, who made a more patient 43.
Brad Lewis managed to pick up the wickets of both Gregory and Hills, leaving the visitors all out for 164 and so, enabling Staithes to complete a 43-run victory.
