Seamer 3rds are the latest team to pull out of the Derwent Valley League - just days before the season is set to kick off.
This follows on from the resignations of Oriel, Hunmanby and Sewerby 4ths from the Derwent Valley set-up, which gets underway tomorrow.
League secretary Bernard Goulding said: “It is yet another blow for local cricket.
“On Thursday night I had a call from Seamer chairman Steve Richardson, which was followed by an email saying that due to a lack of players Seamer 3rds have had to resign from playing in Division B of the Derwent Valley Cricket League.
This will leave just eight teams in Division B and now all teams in that division will now play just 14 games with four blank Saturdays.
“That makes it four teams from the league who have resigned in the past five weeks due to lack of players.”
Seamer’s resignation means that in the Welford Cup Wold Newton 2nds now have a bye to the semi-final, and Valley Bar Nomads are now through to the second round in the Home Guard Sunday Cup and meet Flamborough CC in the second round at Flamborough.
