Whitby Cricket Club 3rds got back to winning ways this weekend after travelling away to Yarm.
After losing the toss and being asked to field first, Whitby began poorly with Yarm starting aggressively.
Whitby struggled early on but with some tight bowling in the middle overs from Ryan Braithwaite, on his return to the side, and Rikki Lawrence, who took 3-20, Whitby fought back into the game.
Taylor Humble and Kieran Purvis picked up two wickets each, reducing Yarm to 158/9 off their 45 overs.
In reply, Whitby looked a bit shaky, losing a few early wickets but from there, a partnership of 100 from opener Tim Richardson (53 not out) and Joe Crowther (58 not out) gifted Whitby a six-wicket win and 20 points in an enjoyable and competitive contest.
Whitby Cricket Club 2nds were heavily beaten at Normanby Hall on Saturday.
The hosts made a slippery start, losing both opening batsmen with only eight runs on the scorecard.
But a third wicket partnership between Adam Beaumont (59) and Amir Khan (120 not out) got Normanby Hall back on track, eventually registering a total of 241/5.
Tom Steyert took two wickets for Whitby.
In reply, Whitby failed to get a foothold into the game with Mark Jackson the only batsman to reach 20.
The 2nds returned to the pavilion for 121 all out and turn their attentions to a home game against Wolviston 1sts tomorrow.
Whitby’s under 17s fared better in the NYSD Junior League South, coming out on top in their Monday night match, also against Normanby Hall.
The visitors finished their 20 overs with a score of 108/5, with Lewis Brearley taking 2-12 for Whitby.
Brearley then also starred with the bat, retiring hurt on 50, with Jack Lyth on 28 not out.
Whitby reached their target for the loss of just two wickets and almost three overs to spare.
