Paul Buck's brilliant 91 helped Whitby take the majority of the points on offer from their game at Northallerton in North Yorkshire South Durham League Division One.
Whitby batted first and made it to 171-9, Buck hitting the bulk of their runs as only opener Finlay Morris (25) offered any real support.
Opener Albert Aurelius top-scored for the hosts with 31, but it looked like Whitby were going to get the victory as Steven Allen (3-34), James Hall (3-39), William Donald (2-21) and Jono Chapman (1-13) proved too hot to handle for the Northallerton batsmen.
The hosts managed to hold out though, finishing on 142-9 and leaving Whitby frustrated.
Whitby 2nds were well-beaten by Normanby Hall in Division Two.
Hall batted first and made it to 144-7, Ricky Hall (4-37) and Matthew Towey (3-32) taking the wickets to fall.
In reply, Whitby's batsmen had no answer to the bowling of Francois Kroukamp, who took 6-36 as the home side were all out for just 94.
None of the Whitby batsmen made it to 20, with Andrew Wood (19) and Towey (17) their top-scorers.
