Whitby 2nds are still looking for their first NYSD League Division Three win of the season after slipping to a 89-run loss at home to Wolviston 2nds.

The visitors won the toss and batted first, Whitby taking an early grip of the game as they reduced Wolviston to 25-4.

But a 60-run stand for the fifth wicket between Adil Shahid (48) and Rohan Garud (24) got the away side back on track and late runs from number nine bat Jamroze Khan (28) helped them post 168-9 from their 40 overs.

Matthew Smith was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-43, while Ricky Hall took 3-22.

Whitby 2nds never looked comfortable in reply, with only opener Joe Crowther (15), Graham Kettle (19) and number 10 batsman Dom gallon (18) making it to double figures as they were shot out for only 79 runs.

The 2nds will hope to bounce back with a win at home to Bishop Auckland 2nds tomorrow.

Whitby 1sts lost by 21 runs at Blackhall in Division One.

The home side batted first and made 189-5 from their 50 overs, skipper Paul Moss top-scoring with 46 from 108 balls.

Will Donald and Joseph Husband took two wickets apiece for the visitors.

Openers Ron Lyth (46) and Donald (26) gave Whitby a solid start, and they were well-placed at 92-2, but they then slipped to 123-7 despite a battling knock of 36 from Paul Buck.

Whitby eventually fell to 161 all out, but they still remain in top spot and will want to boost their hopes of gaining the title with a win at Wolviston tomorrow.
