Youngsters battle it out in gymnastics festival

MORE than 80 years three and four pupils took part in a key step gymnastics festival at Eskdale School.

Pupils from Stakesby, Sleights, St Heddas, Egton, West Cliff and Ruswarp competed followed by teams from Castleton, Lythe, East Whitby, Goathland, Fylingdales and Airy Hill battling it out the following day.

Year nine Leaders from Eskdale School developed their own leadership skills by coaching and judging the youngsters who completed a range of gymnastic disciplines.

All of the gymnasts performed on both floor and vault and demonstrated superb body management skills.

Egton team two were the overall team winners on the Wednesday, followed by West Cliff in second place and Stakesby team two in third.

Airy Hill took the trophy on Thursday, with Castleton following in second place.

Third place went to East Whitby team one.

Organiser Caroline Watson said: “There was a good standard of gymnastics being performed on both afternoons – all of the scores were very close.

“I would like to say well done to all of the children who took part and thank everyone who has helped to make both events a great success”.
