Whitby Seals Swimming Club kicked off the season with a fantastic win in their first competitive outing of 2017 in Bridlington.
The Seals put out a young team, packed with first-time swimmers, who with the help and guidance of a few more experienced team members, fought off stiff competition from Scarborough’s Kingfishers, South Hunsley, Beverley and the hosts Bridlington.
The scale of the team’s achievements was underlined by the fact that from the 32 individual events, 23 personal best times were posted, with 44 personal best split times in the 16 relay races.
The impressive performance was also noted by the host club’s chairman, as was the way the team conducted themselves.
Commenting on the club’s Facebook page, he said “Well done Whitby, you were awesome, great fun and well behaved. Thank you.”
With so many young swimmers in the team, the result showed the strength in depth that the club takes into the season, as it looks to repeat their success in 2016 when they were crowned Division Two champions in the Scarborough and District Swimming Association league.
They also out-performed many bigger clubs to finish the season as the third best club out of the 12 teams in the league.
