WHITBY Rugby Club kick off a brand new season on Saturday (27 Aug) with a home match against Wensleydale in the first round of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy, and start the new league campaign with both teams in action is a week away.
The match against opponents below them in the national league structure should provide an ideal warm-up ahead of their opening fixture in the Durham and Northumberland League Two on Saturday 3 September.
It is a chance for the club’s up-and-coming youngsters to have a bite at the top playing adult rugby.
Pre-season has been fair to the Maroons but Andrew Morley’s broken leg has dealt the club a massive blow.
However, Tristan Pottas returns to bolster the side.
This year marks the club’s 60th anniversary and people still have until Thursday (1 Sep) to get tickets for the dinner and dance at Whitby Pavilion on 10 September to mark the celebration. Three hundred tickets, at £37.50 per person, have been sold.

As part of the 60th event, the club is hosting a community family day on Monday (29 Aug) 1pm-5pm, with bouncy castles, a barbecue, fun games and football.
