YOUNGSTERS from 16 Whitby area school teams will contest Rugby World Cup Wednesday (22 June) – as long as the weather stays kind.
Children will represent international teams like New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, with Danby A taking the honour of being ‘England’.
The Whitby Gazette-sponsored competition, at Eskdale School, is due to get under way at 12.30pm with presentations to the winners at around 3pm.
England women’s rugby star and Sky Sports’ Living for Sport mentor, Katy Storie, will be there to offer support and encouragement throughout the day.
Organisers are keeping their fingers crossed the weather stays fine after the weekend sports fixtures were hammered by persistent rain.
* Keep an eye out for an eight-page supplement on Rugby World Cup Wednesday in the Whitby Gazette on Tuesday 5 July.
