Whitby Seals were represented at the Spring Yorkshire County Swimming Championships, which were held over three weekends.
Qualifying for this event puts the Seals swimmers among the best in the county, which is a huge achievement for the club.
With 10 swimmers qualifying across a variety of strokes and distances, the seven who were able to attend didn’t disappoint.
First time qualifiers Alex Marr, 9, the club’s youngest competitor, swam in the 50m butterfly and Ebony Butler, 11, competed in the 50m breaststroke, and both enjoyed the event with fabulous swims as they achieved personal bests.
Ben Wilkinson, 13, took part in 50m and 100m butterfly, achieving a North East Regional (NER) time for 200m butterfly and personal bests across all swims.
Henry Cornforth,11, competed in six events, narrowly missing out on a top-10 place in the 50m backstroke, but went on to secure a place in the final of the 50m freestyle.
Spurred on by this achievement and powerful racing in the final rewarded him with a fourth place. Personal bests were achieved across all his other events.
Lewis Dobson,13, achieved a NER time in 50m breaststroke, along with Harvey Russell, 13, in the 50m freestyle.
The club’s more experienced county swimmer Ben Botham,15, swam well in all his events, achieving long-course personal bests.
Joseph Lees, Anna Lees and Heidi Price all qualified, but were unable to attend the championships.
