WHITBY Community College athletes make up a large proportion of the Scarborough and district team competing in the schools’ county cross country championships at Catterick this weekend.
The college students were selected as a result of their top 12 performances in the three district meetings leading up to the end of December.
In the intermediate girls, years 10 and 11, Dani Braithwaite, Becky Mills, Maria Mastrolonardo, Annie Jones, Lizzie Marsay, Rachael Tindall and Romy Thompson all qualified while the boys are also well represented, by Dougie Elias, Adam Entwhistle, Ben Lewis, Joe Hogarth, Phil Hartas and Harry Smith.
Grace Rodgers is competing in the senior girls’ sixth form, while Darren Mills and Ryan Braithwaite vie for glory in the senior boys’ section.
Athletes finishing in the top six this weekend will be asked to represent North Yorkshire at the English Schools’ cross country at Nottingham in March.
Those finishing in the top 12 will represent North Yorkshire in an inter-county match early next month.
