Whitby’s 2014 rowing season is hoping to bounce back after poor weather put paid to the first of the scheduled races

Both Friendship and Fishermen’s crews have been training up for the race programme, although this has also been restricted due to poor sea conditions, with harbour training taking place instead.

The first races of the season – The Abbey Gift Races – had to be cancelled on Sunday because of poor sea conditions.

Three scheduled evening dates were also lost for the same reason and a new date set of June 8 has been pencilled in.

The two clubs thank the people who supplied the safety and starter boats over the period.

The next race on the calendar is this Sunday – the Men’s German Ocean off the beach at 1pm followed by:

June 8: Abbey Gift, off beach at 10.30am

June 15: Clifford Page, off beach 1pm

July 5-6, Scarborough Regatta

July 13, German Ocean, vets, juniors, off beach 1pm

July 27, Coronation Cup, off beach 12.30pm.

Whitby Regatta, racing on 7-11 August

September 27, London Great River Race.
