Whitby ladies golfers brave heavy showers

TWENTY-eight players took part in Karen Marshall captain’s day at Whitby Golf Club.

On a day interspersed with heavy showers, Pat Coakley emerged the winner with a net 70, beating Sue Dryden over the back nine who was runner up. Barbara Knaggs had the best gross of the day with a 85.

Other winners were Doreen Richardson silver div front 9, Sheena Hamilton back 9; bronze div. Jennifer Ratcliffe front 9 and Sue Bennison back 9; putting prize silver div June Halley and bronze div Wendy Hurworth; target golf l Kath Cooling, 2 Sandra Bastiman and 3 Marjorie Mackenzie.

Jean Jefferson won nearest the line on hole two and Susie Sykes nearest the pin on hole ll.

Karen invited past members to play in anine-hole stableford competition and this was won by Julia Brown with Lydia Stark runners-up.

Two new members Mandy Coates and Chris Robinson also got a prize. After Karen had presented her prizes, she was presented with a bouquet from the ladies’ section and then all members enjoyed a buffet.

Other competition results over the last month are as follows: June Medal winner Kath Walker net 7l, R/U Pat Landers 74 over back 9 from Sandra Bastiman.

Winner of the Silver Vase Trophy was Kath Cooling with a good score net 69. R/U Jenny Ratcliffe net 7l and 3rd Kath Walker net 73.

In the Jane White Foursomes, Karen Marshall and Sue Bennison won, runners-up were Kath Cooling and Doreen Richardson.

Kath Walker on a run of good form won the Par competition with Jenny Ratcliffe R/U again.

The Endeavour Trophy, a knockout competition, was won by Sue Bennison, R/U Jenny Ratcliffe. Pat Landers with 21 pts won a nine-hole stableford with Sheena Hamilton 2nd and Sue Bennison 3rd.

The inter-club matches have now finished with Whitby B team beating Cave Castle away and the Scratch team losing at home to Bedale and away to Wetherby.
