Whitby Ladies got back to form this weekend, sealing a battling 3-3 draw against Newcastle University.

After a tough couple of weeks with key players away, they finally had a squad back together.

The first 10 minutes saw Whitby defending hard.

A couple of short corners to Newcastle on the bounce saw an unbelievable strike hit the back of the net for 1-0, giving goalkeeper Kirsty Dixon no chance.

Whitby came back fighting, and it wasn’t long until a ball through found Emily Webster, who made it 1-1.

The pace stayed high and Whitby kept pressing, the play was end-to-end for the rest of the half.

Just before the interval, Natasha Kent made a fabulous run up the line, a ball made it through to Rosanna Hall, who was perfectly positioned by the right post, managing to jink the ball through, giving Whitby a 2-1 half-time lead.

Newcastle came back fighting in the second half, Whitby’s defenders Michelle Myers, Siobhan Robinson and Danielle Braithwaite worked hard, but unfortunately a ball managed to slip through to make it 2-2.

Whitby were determined to turn it around and it wasn’t long before Zara Noble and captain Dani Halley made some ground up the pitch and Lisette Vincent-Jones scored to make it 3-2.

It was a nail-biting last 10 minutes, and eventually clever play from Newcastle equalised the score to 3-3 at the final whistle resulting in a share of the spoils.

After the difficulties of the last few weeks, Whitby were happy with the final score from an entertaining game.

Unfortunately, due to the Whitby astroturf being resurfaced, home games are currently played at Norton.

Whitby take on Alnwick this weekend, looking to maintain their form.

Danby Ladies suffered a 4-0 defeat against a strong Richmond side.

Despite the result, Danby played some fantastic hockey throughout.

The Hogarth trio, Rosie, Kath and Issy, were back in action this weekend and all had an excellent game.

Rosie was making brilliant runs into space, Kath as always was doing a great job in the middle, sending the balls out to the wings, and Issy, time-and-time again steered one of the Richmond players down the wing, ensuring the ball did not make it into their attacking D.

Emma Foster and Nikki Graham were also in top form, both full of energy, intercepting balls, making fantastic tackles and powerful hits.

However, player of the match again this week was goalkeeper Josie Bowes.

Although the final score was 4-0 to Richmond, Bowes made some amazing saves.

Richmond had plenty of shots on target, but Bowes was able to block them every time with some excellent precision.

Danby travel to Redcar this weekend for a local derby encounter.
