WHITBY brothers Christopher and Benedict Millson have both achieved sporting success and been selected to represent North Yorkshire in their chosen sports.
Christopher, who is studying for A-levels at Whitby Community College, was selected as goalkeeper for the North Yorkshire U17 hockey team on Sunday, following a series of coaching sessions and trials at the county’s hockey academy.
He will join his team in games against West Yorkshire, Humberside, South Yorkshire and Durham over the next few months.
Christopher is a member of Whitby Hockey Club and is coached by Karen Sanderson, who encouraged him to try out for the county despite Whitby having no men’s team for Christopher to play in and him not having the same level of match experience as some of the other members of the academy.
Last weekend, Caedmon pupil Benedict represented North Yorkshire in the Regional Sportshall Athletics Championships and came away as a double Yorkshire champion.
Benedict won the U15 standing triple jump and shot putt events with personal best distances of 8.33m and 10.68m respectively. He also came second in the all-rounder competition, sprint relay and team competition.
Benedict is now looking ahead to the summer season having secured a place with a specialist coach and training squad.
He already holds the Scarborough and district triple jump record as well as three school records and aims to add to this tally this year.
