WHITBY’S Paul Brittain claimed the £1,000 top prize in the spring angling festival.
Paul’s 15lb 0.5oz cod which he landed a week last Friday could not be bettered throughout the rest of the festival, which was run by Whitby Charter Skippers’ Association.
Another Whitby angler - Mal Greenley - won the daily prize for first and second this last Friday with a ling and a cod caught off Shy Torque III, but Paul held on for the overall honours.
The event has now concluded. The summer festival runs from 18 June to 10 July.
