Unbeaten Dales girls rustle Owls’ feathers

Unbeaten Fylingdales and Whitby welcomed back Jo Raw for this crunch match and brought in Chloe Wilson due to Anna Welford and Lorna Ready being unavailable.

The Dales started well and were 9-3 up in the first quarter with Chloe Purves and Jo Raw shooting well and defenders Chloe Wilson and EmilyHay working hard.

In the second quarter, the Owls spread their wings and showed their claws with a good fightback to equal the Dales’ eight goals for that quarter to close the gap to 17-11 at half-time.

The Dales just shaded the next quarter 6-5 with Jen Milburn, playing wing attack, making most of the running to feed the shooters.

With a 23-16 lead going into the final quarter, the Dales knew if they played a tight quarter and restricted the young Owls team, the game was theirs for the taking.

Although the team had no subs, the superior fitness of the Whitby girls shone through and with centre Kelly Storr and Beth Hellawell defending the centre court well, the Dales scored six goals to five to run out 30-21 winners.

Chloe Purves was given player of the match and Jen Milburn had a great game at wing attack. The Dales remain undefeated in the league with three games to play.
