Top week worth of fishing produces last day drama

ANGLERS enjoyed a fantastic week at Whitby Sea Anglers’ annual uptiding festival, with plenty of quality fish at the scales.

Piotr Janik dramatically grabbed the £1,000 jackpot on the final day of the festival when he caught a 20lb 12.5oz cod from Jon Whitton’s boat Never Can Tell A.

Jon is pictured receiving the prize money on Piotr’s behalf, from Paul Kilpatrick, secretary of Whitby Sea Anglers.

Mr Kilpatrick said: “Top prizes were all double figure cod and ling just short of 20lb but it went right down to the wire with a 20lb cod on the last day – absolutely brillant, what way to end the competition.

“I must say a massive thank you to our sponsors who made this competition what it is. First Gary Jones from his work and to some of his other work colleagues who in total sponsored £500; also Glenn Kilpatrick, Frank Cope plus all three skippers sponsored the event to make up the cash prizes.

“A total of £1,700 in cash was paid over the week. A big thank you to all ladies and gents who entered the competition plus to Jimmy Hewitson our weigh master who is also a member.

“Jim did a fantastic job.”
