Local freestyle skier Thea Fenwick topped the podium at the British Freestyle Championships.

With two gold medals and a podium position in every event, the championships, which were held in Tignes, France, represent one of the 12-year-old’s most successful performances to date.

Thea’s results have also cemented her position as the best female skier of her age in the country.

The Fyling Hall school pupil (pictured above) told The Whitby Gazette: “I had an awesome time at The Brits; I landed all my tricks and I’m stoked with my medals. “I’ve been training loads this winter. The big jumps scare me sometimes but you’ve just got to go really fast.”

After winning the title of British Indoor Moguls Champion in summer, Thea’s family took the decision to devote more time to her training.

In January, they packed their skis and drove to the Italian city of Aos for three months of preparation for the most important event in the freestyle calendar, the British Freestyle Championships (known as ‘The Brits’).

Thea competed in three disciplines at The Brits, earning gold medals in the Slopestyle and Halfpipe events and a bronze medal in Skicross.

Thea will be spending her last week in the Alps filming video edits and training for the upcoming summer season of indoor competition before she returns to train at her homeslope, ChillFactore in Machester.
