Scaling Dam Sailing Club are hosting an open day on Sunday where families are being invited to go along and try something new, completely free of charge.
The event will give visitors the opportunity to try dinghy sailing at the club, located on the A171 between Guisborough and Whitby, and will demonstrate examples of the wide variety of watersports that can take place on the reservoir. Club commodore Dave White said: “We must be one of the cheapest sports you can get.
“It’s a sport that anyone can take up at any age and become competitive if they wish. If they don’t they can just enjoy the ambience on the lake.”
It costs just £5 to hire a club boat for a session, which will cater for a whole family. Other sports that take place on Scaling Dam include windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and power boating.
Mr White said the sports promote self-confidence and teamwork and also provide a great social opportunity, with a regular Friday youth club.
They also work in tandem with the RYA and local schools through the On Board Scheme.
