Popular Pat loses brave fight

THE Whitby Golf Club ladies’ team withdrew from the Alliance on Monday due to the funeral of Pat Landers.

Pat was a popular member who lost her brave fight against cancer and she will be greatly missed by all members of the club.

The Ladies general meeting took place on 10 January when retiring Lady Captain Karen Marshall reported over the past year’s fixtures and highlights of her year.

She thanked everyone for their support and for making it such an enjoyable year.

The winner of the ELGA Medal, Birdie Tree and Par Ladder was Kath Walker and the winner of the LGU Brooch was Sandra Bastiman.

Karen presented the new Lady Captain, Jennifer Ratcliffe, with the captain’s badge.

Officers of the blub for 2012 are: lady captain Jennifer Ratcliffe, vice-captain/immediate past captain Karen Marshall, hon secretary Amanda Ing, hon handicap secretary Kath Cooling, hon treasurer Marjorie Mackenzie, members of the committee Sandra Bastiman, Janet Wightman, June Halley, Sue Wessel and Mandy Coates.

Doreen Richardson will captain the team for The Mail on Sunday national competition and Whitby ladies have received a bye in the first round.

Results, January Medal: winner Marjorie Mackenzie, 2 Karen Fellows, 3 Sandra Bastiman; January Stableford winner Karen Fellows with 38 pts, 2 Marjorie Mackenzie, 3 Susan Bennison.

There will be an EGM of the ladies’ section on Tuesday 21 February at 2.30pm to vote on a change to the ladies’ section rules.
