Whitby’s darts ace Richie Parkin believes he belongs at a higher level after making it to the third round of the Scottish Open at the weekend.
Parkin averaged 104.86 as he trounced Brian Gilmartin 3-0 in the first round, before a 3-1 win against Peter Johnstone in the second round, a victory that included a superb 121 check-out.
The Whitby man exited the event when he lost 3-1 to 20th seed Willem Mandigers.
Parkin rued a missed dart at double top to make it 2-2 and set up a tense finale, but was delighted with his effort.
Parkin said: “I played very well all weekend and proved to myself I am good enough at this level. I just need a little luck with the draw.
“Thank you for Glen Durrant for taking me up and for everyone’s messages of support.”
