The first trophy of the summer season, the Famous Grouse Foursomes, went to Richard Appleton and Alan Atkinson, who combined to produce a score of 69.

Peter Turnbull and Paul Warrilow were in second place with 70, Mark Kerr and Colin Upton were third on 71 and John Hartley and Tam McConville fourth on 73 ½.

Eleven couples took part in the rescheduled Silver Salver Mixed Greensomes on Saturday afternoon. The winners by a handsome margin were Kath Cooling & Geoff Cooling with 71.6. Janet McGeehin and Bob Scott were runners up with 75.2. The next mixed competition is the Mary Richardson Greensomes on Sunday June 7 – the time sheet will be up on the main club noticeboard next week.

On Sunday, Jem Cockerill and John Carter combined well to win the Des Burton Betterball Medal. Their score of 66 was equalled by three other pairs and separated by the last nine holes.

Steve Swales and Mike Storr were second, Martin Shackleton and Steve Dosdale third, with Phil Allan and Ian Marsay coming fourth.

Earlier in the week James Jewell won the Midweek Stableford with 42 points.

A bit of a logjam on 40 points had to be sorted out by comparing the back nine, six and even three holes, and it finished with Kevin Barker in second, Andrew Dent third and Roger Davison taking the last prize.

Andrew Coomber and Paul Mendelsohn also had 40.

In the ladies section, Jennifer Ratcliffe won the Centenary Cup with a score of 78, beating Susan Bennison over the back nine holes. Barbara Mahan had 81, and Karen Marshall and Janet McGeehin 82.

This week’s winner of £100 in the 200 Club was Mrs Boyes.
