But a 60-run stand for the fifth wicket between Adil Shahid (48) and Rohan Garud (24) got the away side back on track and late runs from number nine bat Jamroze Khan (28) helped them post 168-9 from their 40 overs.
Matthew Smith was the pick of the home bowlers with 4-43, while Ricky Hall took 3-22.
Whitby 2nds never looked comfortable in reply, with only opener Joe Crowther (15), Graham Kettle (19) and number 10 batsman Dom gallon (18) making it to double figures as they were shot out for only 79 runs.
The 2nds will hope to bounce back with a win at home to Bishop Auckland 2nds tomorrow.
