The snow before the weekend decimated the planned competitions, with the Scarborough and District Alliance, Saturday’s Stableford and Sunday’s Fourball Betterball all falling victim to the weather.
As the round of the Alliance at North Cliff had already been postponed once this is now abandoned and the competition moves on to Bridlington on Saturday (18 Feb).
Whitby’s team is: 9.36 Simon Walker and Kevin Barker; 9.44 Colin Upton and Mark Kerr; 9.52 Dean Bennett and Tam McConville; 10.00 Paul Ventress and Steve Ellis; 11.28 James Jewell and Peter Easton; 11.36 Dave Upton and Bob Scott; 11.44 Martin Shackleton and Eric Wilson. Reserve: John Wightman. The next round is at Driffield on Saturday 3rd March.
Dave Weatherill won the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday, the only competition to be played last week.
His score of 43 points gave him a clear win, ahead of Frazer Seaton, Paul Mendelsohn, Chris Shardlow and Andrew Wood on 40.
Brian Grange had 38, with Terry Wilkinson, Mike Harper, Tam McConville, Steve Bircham, Jimmy Witt and Bob Scott on 37.
There will be a Stableford on Saturday (18 Feb), a Fourball Betterball followed by the new Captain driving into office on Sunday and a Midweek Stableford on Wednesday 22.
Morris Crosland won £100 in this week’s 200 Club draw.
Tony’s Tip: at this time of year we often have to play from soft ground, and it is all too easy to hit an enormous divot.
When ground conditions are heavy it is best to sweep the ball off the top of the ground instead of trying to hit firmly down on the ball as you would in summer.
Only put your hands a very little ahead of the clubhead with your weight evenly spread between your feet.
Picture the clubhead brushing the ball off the ground and you will achieve a higher percentage of clean strikes.
