New website up and running

ERIC Wilson has been playing well recently, with his name appearing regularly in the results in Tony Mason’s golf column.

He confirmed that form with a win in the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday 11 January, scoring 41 points.

Howard Drake and Mike Rothwell were one point behind him, leaving Mike to rue playing the wrong ball on the 18th hole with the consequent penalty. Alistair Lyth, Harvey Richardson and Paul Mendelsohn had 39 points, with John McMurran, Roger Turton, Brian Jamieson and Mike Harper on 38.

Virtually the last player on the course on Saturday, Dave Weatherill came in with an amazing 44 points without scoring on two of the holes.

Steve Parkin had 41, with Martin Shackleton and Tam McConville picking up the last two prizes on 40 points. Alistair Lyth, Simon Gibson and Dave Batchelor had 39, with Steve Ellis, Richard Barker, Billy Hardy, Ian Cowie and Howard Drake on 38.

Sunday’s Fourball Betterball was won by Kieran Noble and Chris Noble (no relation) with 66, beating Adrian Brown and Andrew Wood over the back nine holes. Bill Estill and Simon Walker were third on 67, again beating Andy Pearson and Graham Bedford over the last nine holes.

There will be the usual Stableford tomorrow, Fourball Betterball on Sunday and Midweek Stableford on Wednesday.

The Scarborough and District Winter Alliance gets going again after the Christmas break with a competition at Filey on Sunday (22 Jan).

The Annual General Meeting of the club has had to be postponed.

You will be advised of the new date by post once it has been decided.

James Brown was this week’s winner of the 200 Club £100 draw.

Tony’s Tip of the Week:

Hopefully you will have done your best to loosen up before arriving on the first tee.

With the best will in the world you will still not be quite firing on all cylinders, so take things steadily over the first few holes, swinging smoothly and taking a slightly bigger club to reach the greens.

By the time you’ve played four or five holes you should be able to let rip.
