SATURDAY’S Scarborough & District Alliance at North Cliff fell victim to the weather and was postponed.
It will take place this Saturday (11 Feb) instead with the same starting times.
Brian Grange was in great form on Wednesday 1 February, winning the Midweek Stableford with an excellent 45 points.
Andrew Wood was a very close second on 44 with Bill Estill third on 41. Frazer Seaton scored 40 points, ahead of Dave Upton, Dave Weatherill and Dave Richardson on 39 and Andy Smith, John Carter, Mike Rothwell and Bob Scott on 38.
Saturday’s Stableford started cold and quiet, but as the day went on the wind got stronger to give very difficult playing conditions.
It was no surprise therefore when all four prize-winning scores came from the early starters.
Mike Harper was the winner on 40, just beating club captain Tam McConville on 39. Jim Hall had 37 and Ian Cowie 36. Chris Wood, Alistair Lyth and Peter C Brown had 31 points, with Richard Young, John Carter and Mark McBurney on 30.
Overnight snow meant that the Fourball Betterball due to be played on Sunday morning was abandoned.
Next week’s competitions are a Stableford on Saturday (11 Feb), a Fourball Betterball on Sunday and a Midweek Stableford on Wednesday.
Members are reminded there will be an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday 15 February at 7.30pm in the club house, followed by the annual general meeting.
Gary Sanderson won £100 in the 200 Club weekly draw.
Tony’s Tip: At this time of year the sand in the greenside bunkers can sometimes be tightly packed after rain and your technique needs to alter to reflect that.
The club will not penetrate as deeply into the sand as when the sand is dry, so play the clubface square instead of open to help the club cut into the sand and aim a little nearer to the ball.
If the sand is very compacted, use a pitching wedge instead of your sand iron.
