HOT on the heels of her success in the Scarborough District Sports Council Awards, successful local skier Thea Fenwick has scooped a sponsorship contribution from an anonymous donor.

Thea (10) is due to fly out to Morzine in France next week to practice her freestyle and moguls skiing.

Thea will now be able to take lessons thanks to a donation of £300 from a local sponsor who prefers to remain anonymous.

A further £200 is being sought to meet the cost of Thea’s training for the week.

Local firms are being invited to make a contribution in return for advertising on Thea’s ski clothing and her new website,

Thea achieved double success competing in the moguls discipline last summer.

In the Yorkshire Ski Championships, Thea was the first placed ‘mini’ (under 11).

Later in the summer, Thea competed in the British Indoor Moguls Championships against skiers of all ages and won first place in the mini age group and was also placed seventh female overall.

Thea, who attends Sleights School, has been skiing for almost seven years and competing for three years. In November, she won the primary girls’ under 11s award at the Scarborough and District Sports Council awards.

Her mum, Sarah Fenwick, said: “We’d like to express our thanks to the person who has stepped forward to support Thea’s training costs.

“It’s always a challenge to find the money to keep Thea competing at a high level in such an elitist sport.

“We’d love to hear from other potential sponsors.”
