The third round of the Captain’s Betterball at Whitby was played in squally, damp conditions, but Tam McConville made light of that as he returned a 64 with both of his playing partners, John Hartley and Gordon Mackenzie.
John and Tam had the better last six holes after the back nines were tied.

Wendy Hurworth & Karen Fellows had a great third round match away at Teesside in the Daily Mail Foursomes coming back from 2 down to winning 4 & 3 and so progress to the 4th round.
Sue Wessel won the May Medal and Jersey Trophy in the most decisive manner, scoring nett 65 to win by a clear 14 strokes.
Sue Bennison was a distant second on 79, Sue Dryden had 80 and Janet McGeehin 81.
The Grouse Foursomes and the Silver Salver Mixed Greensomes are being played this Saturday after being abandoned in awful weather two weeks ago.
Sunday’s competition is the Des Burton Betterball Medal.
The ladies play for the Smales Cup on Tuesday, followed by the men’s Midweek Medal on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the seniors play Kirkbymoorside at home, and the ladies play the May Par combined with the Bogey Cup.
