A scratch Whitby Maroons side travelled to face Stockton on Saturday in the search for their maiden win at Durham and Northumberland Division One level after a testing start to the campaign.
Whitby started brightly, controlling possession and field position.
For a spell of 25 minutes in the first half, Whitby looked brighter of the sides, stretching the Stockton defence, however the visitors failed to capitalise and Stockton grew into the game.
Finding gaps in the Whitby defence and cutting their way through and scoring at will in the last 15 minutes of the half, Stockon racked up a 24-0 advantage heading in at half-time.
Whitby’s second half performance was poor.
The visitors made unforced mistakes at important times and allowed Stockton to score at will.
Whitby did pick up towards the end of the contest, with captain Gordon Bland scoring a consolation try for the travelling Maroons, leaving the final score 71-5 to hosts Stockton.
Whitby Harlequins fared no better with Kai Dring scoring their try in an emphatic loss to Hartlepool BBOB.
Both Whitby sides host their Ponteland counterparts in the hope of recording their first win of the season in a relegation battle.
