TWO of Whitby’s karate instructors have successfully passed a martial arts coaching course.
They now hold a coaching qualification level one City & Guilds, awarded from Classic Coaching Chatham Kent.
The course included lesson planning, coaching adults and children, health and Safety and child protection.
Whitby Shotokan Karate Club now has fve black belt instructors with this prestigious award.
Sensei Sallyann Smith and Sensei Dan Howard now join their fellow instructors Sensei Mike Howard, 4th dan black belt, Sensei Jim White 3rd dan black belt and Sensei Chris Watmouth 2nd dan black belt, who already hold this qualification.
Whitby Shotokan Karate Club trains twice weekly at Airy Hill Primary School courtesy of headteacher Jim Lidgley.
The club is affiliated to the Independent Federation Of Martial Arts and All instructors are qualified black belt Senseis registered with the federation.
The training times are: Monday and Thursday, novices 5.30-6.30pm; intermediate 6.30-7.30pm and advanced 7.30-9pm.
