GLAISDALE Pony Club’s junior mounted games team enjoyed some success in a national competition - made all the more impressive as three of the girls had not competed in team games before.
In May, the club was placed third at the area competition at Wetherby racecourse, competing against 11 teams from other pony clubs in the Yorkshire area.
This qualified them for the zone finals, held earlier this month at Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre near Rugby, where they were up against 15 other teams from the central region of the UK - Whitby is the most northerly area in the region which also stretches from Wales to Kent.
Glaisdale were placed 9th and are pictured with their rosettes on that day.
District commissioner Jenny Fowles said: “They have been practising at least once a week since February and do various races which test their control, skill and horsemanship.
“It is a real team effort as equipment is passed from one rider to another during the races.
“We are very proud of their achievement, especially since three of them - Tilly, Issy and Caitlin - had not done team games before this year.
“They have been trained by Gina Thompson, who does a great job with them.”
