Friendship to christen new boat

WHITBY’S Friendship Rowing Club will begin the new season in style with the christening of a new boat - the fourth built for the club by local boatbuilder Roger Wood.

The name of the new boat is being kept under wraps until the christening, which takes place at the Friendship on Saturday 16 April at 2pm.

To mark the special occasion, the previous boats built by Roger - Pegasus (1993), Eagle (1998) and Cholmley (2005) - will be in the water to be rowed alongside the new one.

All rowers and club members are invited to attend.

The Friendship boathouse will be open for rowing on Tuesday 5 April at 6pm.

The first race of the season - the Abbey Gift Shop Trophy - takes place on Sunday 15 May, with the races being boys’ 14-17, men’s 18-24, men’s 25 and over, girls’ 14-19 and ladies 18 and over.
