IT’S Friday evening speedway for a change this week at the South Tees Motorsport Park when the Redcar Bears race the Sheffield Tigers in a Premier League fixture with tapes up from 7.30pm.
The teams face each other twice in 24 hours with the Bears having visited the Tigers’ Owlerton Stadium track on the Thursday evening.
The Yorkshire side are a tough proposition with three heat leaders including former Premier League Riders Champion Ricky Ashworth and veteran Shane Parker.
Also, they will be supported by Emiliano Sanchez who rode well for the Bears last season. Josef Franc of Berwick will guest in place of the absent Josh Auty who is en route to a World under 21 semi-final in Slovakia.
However, the Bears are full of beans after an away victory by 47 points to 42 at old rivals Newcastle on Sunday evening. Bears boss Brian Havelock said: “It was a good all-round performance at Brough Park with Matej Kus top of the pile having only arrived at the last moment following his flight from Prague.
“Also Lubos Tomicek made a sound debut and we look to have a strong opening pairing in Jason Lyons and Lubos.
“The Tigers will be formidable opposition however and fans are in for an exciting encounter on Friday.”
