Danby League players dominated the latter stages of this year’s Wilkinson Sword Competition held at the King’s Arms, Wolviston.
Six of the quarter-finalists were from local clubs.
Paul Dixon of Fylingthorpe saw off last year’s winner Richard Watson, Croft.
Danby’s Brian Mould defeated Mike Mendelsohn, Fylingthorpe. Mickleby exile Richard Leak beat Ugthorpe’s Paul Welford and Andrew Welford beat Billingham’s Ian Catterson.
The first semi between Dixon and Mould was expected to be a close affair but Dixon ran away with it, winning 21-3.
The other was a battle of the forces with RAF and Welford coming out on top of the Army and Leek, 21-9.
This set up a threelegged final, with Dixon winning the first 15-6, a tighter game than the scoreline suggested and the second and decisive leg 15-2 to claim the coveted trophy for the seventh time.
