Danby bounce back from loss with Hartlepool win

Saturday was a big game for Danby as they took on a Stokesley 3rds side who they shared top spot in the league with - both teams undefeated at this point.

Danby fielded a strong team and also had the luxury of a few subs.

Stokesley controlled the first 10 minutes but then Danby found their feet and began to attack.

At half-time the score was 0-0.

Stokesley managed an early goal in the second half and despite Danby holding most of the possession from then on and having a few shots on goal, they were unable to pull a goal back.

The final score remained at 1-0 to Stokesley, sealing the visitors’ promotion.

There was some fantastic individual performances.

Nikki Graham was excellent in defence and was awarded the player of the match award.

Christine Tarrant was in top form in defence.

Sunday was Danby’s final game of the season they finished with a bang as they beat Hartlepool 3-1.

Danby’s goalscorers were Clem Jackson, Chloe Wilson and Laura Anderson-Cornforth.

Player of the match was awarded to Chloe Wilson.

Danby presented their end-of-season awards.

Young Player of the Season went to Erin Hodgson, who also scooped the Player of the Season honour.

This is the first time that a young player has been awarded the player of the season award.

Erin Hodgson has gone from strength-to-strength and is a very adaptable player who can transfer her skills wherever she is placed on the pitch.

She carries the ball with confidence and has an extremely powerful and accurate hit.

Top scorer was Laura Anderson-Cornforth, who scored a total of 25 goals this season and has contributed massively to the success of the team.

Katie Hodgson was awarded the Sports Personality of the Year Award, who has been a fantastic captain this year and goes above and beyond for the team.

She has been behind the scenes this year fundraising and also planning training week in, week out.
