Cup victory reduces Kath’s handicap

THE Aislaby Cup was the first trophy of the season to be played for by Whitby Golf Club ladies and this was won by Kath Cooling with a score of 70 net.

This reduced Kath’s handicap by two shots.

Runner-up was Karen Marshall 75 net over the back nine from Sue Bennison.

The April Stableford was won by Barbara Knaggs with 4l pts and her gross score broke the course record for the ladies section.

Janet Wightman emerged the winner of the Jersey Trophy and May Medal 7l net and Jenny Ratcliffe runner up with a 72 net. These two ladies also reduced their handicaps. Wendy Hurworth was 3rd with 76 net.

Some inter-club matches have also been played recently. The scratch team beat Wetherby at home 4/3 and the B team beat Pike Hills 6/1 but lost to Ganton at home 5 ½ to 1 ½.

In the Yorkshire Foursomes, Maureen Eglon and Sue Dryden won with a 76½, Sue Bennison and Barbara Mahan, Doreen Richardson and Sandra Bastiman, and Kath Walker and Marjorie Mackenzie also qualified to play in the next round at Kirkbymoorside.

Having to give l2 shots to their opponents, the Daily Mail Foursomes team of Barbara Knaggs and Kath Cooling lost away to Eaglescliffe.
