Whitby Boxing Club is gearing to host its second event, at Whitby Pavillion, after being active for just over a year.
The club, which saw four of its member compete for Yorkshire titles last weekend, is hoping to enter up to 14 of its own boxers into the event, that will include talent from across Yorkshire and the North East.
Head coach, Stewart Lorains, who has been involved in amateur boxing for over 20 years, has been delighted with how the club has come along over such a short period.
He said: “It is like the club has progressed from the fourth division to the Premier League.
“It has been hard work but the support of all our coaches has been great. The kids are really blossoming.”
The club opened its doors in January last year and is now awaiting a move to it’s new home at the old St Patrick’s Church, on Church Street, within the next six weeks.
Lorains added: “There are a few issues to sort out, then we can move in.
“It will be absolutely super, we can make it like a home for us and give it that personal touch.
“The kids can also add their own touches to the place.”
After just over a year, of being open, the club has grown dramatically, also winning a club award in the prestigious Scarborough and District Sports Council awards in November.
Stewart appreciates all the help they have had from the local community.
He said: “I can’t believe how much support we have had and the backing is amazing from local businesses.
“I’d like to say a big thank you, to all the local support, from everyone at the club.”
The club caters for members of all standards and from ages nine up to 40 years old.
Sessions are £1 each and are held every Tuesday and Wednesday 6pm to 7.15pm for nine to15 year olds, followed straight after by the 16 to 40-year-olds group and a mixed session on Fridays 6.30pm to 8pm.
The event itself will take place at the Whitby Pavilion on Friday March 20 and will begin at 7pm.
Tickets are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis and cost £10, or £25 for a meal ticket.
Tickets are available from the club, their Facebook page or you can call Stewart Lorains on 07974 332605.
