WHITBY Rifle Club’s short mat bowling section, held their non-winners competitions on a knockout basis over nine ends.

The ladies started with Irene Pearson against Eileen Clark.

It was such a close game that they went into the last end even, having scored nine each, but it was Irene who went through and played Olive Tordoff in the semi-final.

However it was Olive who won this time.

In the other semi-final, Jean Parkinson, who was very much on form, beat Hilda Brown.

In the final, Jean continued to play really well to beat Olive.

The men’s final produced a fine game between Mick Wade and Ian Roberts, with Mick going into an early lead which he held to win.

Last week, the Whitby Rifle Club team played at home in their charity match against Edwin Smith’s team of Gladstone Road, Scarborough.

This was an enjoyable afternoon, which saw some excellent bowling from both sides.

It raised £185 on the day, which will be added to mones raised from other functions, for the chosen charity this year, the air ambulance.

The Triples League, which started after Christmas - which sees teams of three play all the other teams twice - has now been completed.

The winners were the team of Ian Harrison, Roly Clark and Rose Isherwood.

In second place were the team of Lucy White, Olive Tordoff and Eileen Clark and in third place was John Pybus, Ian Roberts and Don Isherwood.
