PEOPLE are being urged to be inspired by The Olympics as entrants are sought for two sporting events this Whitby Regatta weekend.
First up is a chance for youngsters to show off their silky skills in an under 11s boys and girls beach soccer festival, which runs from 10am to 2pm on Saturday (18 Aug) on Whitby beach, below Battery Parade.
It costs £5 per team to enter and you can get forms from Ultimate Soccer School, Whitby Leisure Centre or fromo firstname.lastname@example.org
If athletics is more your thing, the Lidl Whitby Regatta fun run starts and finishes from Crescent Gardens on Sunday (19 August) for all you Mo Farahs out there.
Starting at 10am, it is open to all ages and abilities with prizes given in 11 and under, 14 and under, 16 and under groups for the first and second girl and boy, also in the open age group and to the first over 16 female finisher.
Entry is £4 adults (£5 on race day), £2 children under 16 (£3 on race day), with registration accepted before 9.30am on Sunday.
For more information call Whitby Leisure Centre on (01947) 604640.
SBC’s Sports development officer Matt Hewison said: “Obviously the main core sporting event of the regatta is the rowing programme, but by providing the beach soccer festival and the fun run it gives people the opportunity to get involved in another sporting activity.
“Hopefully people will be inspired by the recent London 2012 Olympics and have a go at the fun run, it’s only a couple of miles on a very scenic route and every participant will receive a medal and goody bag courtesy of sponsor Lidl.”
